Autumn in New Mexico
Golden curtains shimmer down
to ground and grass
through high-arcing, brilliant double rainbows,
children of the rain
and setting sun
The air is tangible,
yellow, fragrant
Wind's luxurious fingers
stroke the trailing green tresses
of swaying desert willows
while orchestral cicadas
play their evening waltzes
on winged, electric instruments
And night draws down its starlit shades
on Nature's forever unfinished symphony
SPRING RETURN
EARTH RELEASES
HER LONG-HELD BREATH,
EXHALES HERSELF,
REVEALS HER SOUL
IN LIVING, FLAWLESS RAINBOWS
FLOURISHING ON BRANCHES,
BURIED, GROWING UNDER ROCKS,
THRIVING IN NESTS AND FIELDS
PLAYING MELODIES WITH MY S ENSES,
EARTH DISPLAYS HER SOUL
WITH NOISELESS SONG
SUMMER RETURN
THE SOUNDS OF SUMMER
STARTING UP
IN THE REVVING, HUMMING ENGINES
OF LAWNMOWERS THAWING OUT
FROM THE LONG WINTERS FREEZE
THE VOICES OF CHILDREN
CARRIED ON THE EVENING DISTANCES,
REVELING IN
SUNLIGHT AFTER DINNER,
HOMEWORK LAID ASIDE FOR NOW
UNTIL LATE-NIGHT SUNSET BECKONS
THE INSISTENT BIRDS AND CRICKETS
WHO CHEER THE WARMING AIR
AS NIGHTS COOL BREATH
LETS GO AND OFFERS DAY,
ONE STEP CLOSER
TO THE SOUNDS OF SUMMER
STARTING UP AGAIN
TODAY
TODAY IS A DAY
FILLED WITH BEAUTY
AND GRACE
THE WINDS IN THE TREES,
IT CARESSES MY FACE
THE SKY IS AS CLEAR
AS A CRYSTAL BLUE OCEAN
THE EXQUISITE AIR
STIRS MY SOUL, MY EMOTIONS
I HEAR GOD
IN THE SINGING
OF NEST-BUILDING BIRDS
ON A DAY LIKE TODAY,
AINT NUTHIN DISTURBS
THE PEACE IN MY HEART,
THE JOY IN MIND
THEY SHINE
THROUGH THE DARK,
MAKE ME FEEL
LESS APART
FROM MY FAMILY,
MANKIND,
AND FROM ALL THINGS
DIVINE
SKY PAINTING
IM WATCHING SHAPE-SHIFTERS
WAY UP HIGH,
STRANGE LOVELY PAINTINGS
MADE BY SKY
MISTY POPULATIONS FLOATING,
ALWAYS CHANGING, SOMETIMES EMOTING
RAINING TEARS FOR OUR PARCHED LAND,
TO BRING NEW LIFE TO BARE, DRY SAND
THEY COME AND GO WITHIN THE SKIES,
REFLECT THEIR MAGIC IN MY EYES,
AND AS THEY GO, NEW CLOUDS ARISE
A GATHERING OF TUMBLEWEEDS
A GATHERING OF TUMBLEWEEDS
HESITATED, TREMBLING ASIDE THE HIGHWAYS EDGE
UNTIL AN ODD,
HOT-BREATHED LITTLE WIND SCAMPERED BY
AND SENT THESE AIRY, BOUNCING SKELETONS
OF A DRY AND BLUE NEW MEXICO
SOMERSAULTING, RACING
THROUGH THE DUSTY ROADS AND FIELDS
OF DESERT WINTERTIME
MOON MAJESTY
THE MOON IS BASKING
IN ITS OWN REFLECTED LIGHT,
AND FLOATS,
A MAJESTIC, SHINING PRESENCE
ABOVE VOCAL, LIVING CLOUDS
OF EVENINGS MIGRANT BIRDS
AND SULTRY TWILIGHT AIR
INFUSED WITH PINK AND ORANGE HUES
OF EARLY AUTUMN SUNSET
AND ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES
AUTUMN RETURN
IN A BEAUTIFUL RAIN, THE TREES
RETURN THEIR SHARE OF BLUE
INTO THE AUTUMN AIR,
BACK TO THE SKY,
TO REVEAL THE GOLD AND YELLOW SUNSHINE
HIDDEN IN THEIR LEAVES
THE RIVERS RISE
IN A BEAUTIFUL RAIN, I
FLOAT UPON THE PULSING WINDS
MY LIQUID WINGS
SHINE,
IRIDESCENCE REFLECTED
TO THE STARS
AS BRANCHES BARE
THEIR SOULS TO APPROACHING WINTER
& ALL THE RIVERS
RISE
WIND DANCERS
TREES DANCE
TO THE RHYTHM OF THE WIND,
TOSSING THEIR MYRIAD ARMS
IN EXUBERANT ABANDON
AS THEY SWAY AND BEND
IN ROOTED FASCINATION
THE AIR IS FILLED
WITH THE MUSIC OF THEIR LEAVES
A PIECE OF GOD
GODS HAND
IS MADE OF WIND
WHICH
BRUSHES BACK THE HAIR
OF SPRINGTIMES THRIVING TREES
AND GRASS
AND TREMBLING DANDELIONS
AND NUDGES OPEN
YOUNG TWILIGHTS UNLOCKED DOORS
(JUST STOPPING IN TO SAY HELLO!)
THEN PULLS THEM
FIRMLY, GENTLY SHUT,
LEAVING A PEACE OF GOD BEHIND
Silent Life
Silent snow
Silent day
Faery mistrals
fall away
from deep within the sky
Silent hush
Silent sound
Weightless crystals
homeward bound
as Winter's songbirds sigh
Silent trees
Silent eArth
Floating petals
seeds of birth
our world no longer dry
