No Regrets

She quickly turned the sizzling pork in the pan,
And remembered a time or two when the pop of the grease,
Was faster than her Hands.
Well now, She muttered, thats good for a spell.
And down she sat in her overstuffed chair,
Next to the table with her sewing box on top.
She had buttons to sew back on and a rip or two to mend.
And as the pork sizzled and simmered in the pan,
And filled the house with the smell of good cooking,
And as the TV glowed and filled the room with news,
She turned to her sewing, after turning on the lamp.
The room filled with a familiar golden glow of light,
And she flipped her thread holder open to match colors to cloth.
She did the same thing, almost every day, and never tired.
She never tired of the smell of her cooking or he r kitchen.
She never tired of the mundane things she did,
To keep her family fit and running smooth.
She never tired of breaking up the girls from fussing at each other,
And she never tired of her mans and sons masculine ways.
She never got tired of the things that grew all around the house,
And seemed to need her constant care and attention.
She never tired of coming home, to a house that needed painting,
Or the stack of bills that she thought would never get caught up.
She was not the happiest woman in the world, by any means.
But she sat there in her overstuffed chair,
Before the rest of her family came straggling home,
And her eyes wandered around the room and the view outside.
And she thought, I may not have the life of no fancy queen.
But I got to admit, I got not one regret about the life I got.
And about that time her man came banging in the door,
And planted a kiss on top of her head as he headed for h is shower.
And kids came stomping in soon after, fussing and aggravating
And she smiled inside of herself, from the comfort of her familiar life.
And she thought once more, Nope, I got no regrets about the life I got.
And then she went and finished getting the supper on.
Cuz it was dinnertime, and probably her favorite time of day,
Cuz her, and her family, would sit together and smile, and laugh and talk and share
and love each other...

Are Men Writing Poetry in Secrecy?

Most men will never openly admit that they like to write Poetry. They can tell you about their rock song lyrics, but you will not hear the word Poetry come out of their mouths. The reason why is obvious. Most of them are scared of being viewed as feminine or even gay, and Poems are for women. Right?

There is of course one exception to the rule. If the motive is to impress a girl, he can overcome his worries and read her a love poem. However, Poetry is not only about love Poems and romance.

Still, many of the great poets in history are men. How can this be? I suspect that many men write Poems in secrecy.

Nevertheless, there is hope. Technology is not commonly viewed as a way to encourage people to create art and Poetry. Ironically enough, it can turn out to be the solution for an insecure poet.

Instead of becoming embarrassed over writing Poems, he can now enjoy the freedom of the anonymous Internet. By creating a pseudonym and signing up on a Poetry site, shy poets can finally share Poems with the world. One such free Poetry site can be found here Poetry Site.

So at last, a man can sh are his Poems without having to worry about what colleagues or friends will say.

Happy writing!

Three Love Poems to Share

My Endless Love

If I could carry sunsets home
to bring before your eyes
My love would travel with the sun
within a ray of light

If I could bring you sunny days
with clouds so puffy white
My love would be within the clouds-
upon an angels flight

If I could bring you happiness
and cheer to make you laugh
My love would give you songs of hope
so tears would never last

If I could lift you-when you fall
to ride upon my back
My love...once more
would carry you-
my endless love surpassed

I am Your Fondest Maiden

I am drawn to your voice
with spattered thoughts-
encased by silent dewdrops
on my hearts sentiments

You give me dreams
of white knights-
saving damsels
once before...crushed
by love's heartaches

It is you-whom I love...
with my breath
and with my kiss-
and I am woven
into the fabric
of your...
soul's silken lining

I am like a spider-
crawling
onto a web
made by a prince...
and I-
am your fondest maiden

Sing a Song for Me

If you should dream upon a star
with sparkles in the sky
then you should be the one I long
My heart could not deny...

If you should give upon my soul
your body's tender love
then you should be the one I kiss
A lasting scent behold

If you should lie upon the grass
with lilies in the field
then you should be my only man
to make love and hold dear

If you should sing upon a harp
with heaven's music nigh
then you should sing a song for me
for tears would not run dry...

Writing is Antoinette's breath and her life. Without it she would wither like a folded rose in an old book of literature. Though she has many interests writing is the companion to her soul.

She is married to a wonderful artist. Many times their days are spent with Mentis' at the easel and herself writing. Television and movies are an entertainment, though most of their time is spent creating. Along with school Antoinette has other projects in the works. Her long term goals include writing a book of poetry, a novel and a screenplay. She divides her time between all her interests and this keeps her working towards her goals.

The Hiding Place

The time has come
For you to come away
Take refuge in Me
I am your hiding place
Come rest in My love
Please seek My face
For there is no end
To my divine grace
Its yours for the taking
To birth a great awakening
To resurrect the dead
To effect every heart and head
A divine turnaround has come
A spiritual outpouring will follow
And eternal joys will replace
All of your past sorrows.

Jesus is My Name
Yesterday, today and forever the same
Steadily and consistently here for you
Always understanding and welcoming too.
With arms open wide on the cross
I did not hesitate to die for you!
It is I, the lover of your soul
My Spirits touch makes you whole
My Word solidifies and stabilizes your soul
In the Church, My body, youll discover your role
With which youll arise anew, anointed and go!

Princess of purity and giver of agape love
Through childlike faith youll fully r eceive
All you dream of
Even love
The fulfillment of an irresistible desire
And be irresistibly desired
With unquenchable fire
So sorrow not in the delay
For something good
Is soon coming your way!

Life's Too Short

Time goes by to quickly
to hold your Feelings inside
Especially when their so strong
even if they don't abide...

By all the accepted rules
most people live by
because this one Time in your Life
You should not wonder why?

Why you didn't act
on what you felt in your heart
when no one could change
it since the very start...

The first Time I saw you
and our eyes connected
I knew my Life would be
dramatically effected...

I do not regret our Choices
nor do I Feel unworthy
of your Love and affection
that makes me sincerely...

Elated and alive
in ways I never knew
I could begin to Feel
that are so truly...

Breathtaking and consuming
in my every day Life
with blissful power that
cuts like a knife...

Right into my soul
and touches my heart
In such a positive mode
it tears me apart...

To think of my world
without you in it
tomorrow or ten years
from now you fit...

With me like a gLove
glued to my body
holding me together
in a way that's oddly...

Familiar and so natural
it almost scares me
to wonder how you
and could actually not be...

Together for a LifeTime
if nobody else existed
We would live a world
of pure blissfulness...

Beautiful Dreamer Stephen Foster America's First Folk Song Writer

Beautiful Dreamer was written by Stephen Foster just before his death in 1864 at age 37. The Song became one of his most famous and most popular. However, as with the approximately 200 other Songs that Foster wrote during his brief lifetime, he did not receive the recognition or financial reward that he deserved.

Stephen Foster was Ame ricas first great Songwriter, yet he died with 38 cents in a leather poke and a scrap of paper on which he had written a bit of Song lyric, dear friends and gentle hearts.

Stephen Collins Foster was born near Pittsburgh on July 4, 1826, the same day that both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died. Foster died in 1864 when he suffered a fall at home while weak from fever. The fall cut open his head and he died in New Yorks Bellevue Hospital shortly thereafter. Foster had been suffering from alcoholism for years prior to his accidental death.

Young Stephen was able to play tunes on the guitar at age two, and at age ten he performed popular comic Songs with local boys. By age 18 he wrote blackface minstrel Songs which were the popular folk music of the day. At age 21 he composed the minstrel Song, Oh! Susanna, which became a hit, resung, repeated, and whistled across the country. In fact it became the unofficial anthem of the Cali fornia Gold Rush two years later.

Music publication was in its infancy in those days and music recording didnt even exist. Stephen Foster did not receive royalties or fees for the many publications or arrangements of Oh! Susanna over the next few years. Indeed, he gave away the rights to the Song and never received a penny for it.

Over the next ten years Foster wrote many Songs, including The Swanee River (Old Folks at Home), Camptown Races, Jeannie With the Light Brown Hair, Old Black Joe, Nelly Bly, Old Dog Tray, and My Old Kentucky Home. Stephen Foster earned a little money by selling his Songs outright, some for as little as one dollar. Its been said that his Songwriting earned him about $20,000 during the 15 or so years of his Songwriting career.

In 1935 Florida adopted The Swanee River as the official state Song, though Stephen Foster never visited Florida nor saw the river. He chose Swanee because the two syllables fit the music he had written. Foster sold E.P.Christy of the Christy Minstrels, a blackface minstrel show troupe, the authorship rights to The Swanee River, a regrettable decision.

The Song became a popular international folk tune and has been credited with starting the tourist industry in Florida. Beginning in the 1880s millions of people traveled to Florida to view the famous northern Florida river.

In 1928 Kentucky adopted My Old Kentucky Home as their of ficial state Song. In 1986 Kentucky changed the second line of the Song, Tis summer, the darkies are gay; to Tis summer, the people are gay; for obvious reasons.

Because of the popularity of My Old Kentucky Home and The Swanee River, many people have the impression that Stephen Foster was a southern gentleman. However, he visited the South on only one occasion, a steamboat trip to New Orleans in 1852.

Stephen Foster spent his life mostly in Pennsylvania and N ew York. His father, William Foster Sr., spent many years in politics, working for President Harrison and winning election to two terms as mayor of Allegheny, Pa.

Prior to the Civil War Stephen Foster helped James Buchanan become President by becoming the musical director of the Buchanan Glee Club and by writing musical pieces for the campaign effort.

During the Civil War Stephen Foster wrote about 70 Songs, mostly patriotic war Songs which sold poorly. During the war Fosters alcoholism deteriorated his health until his poverty-stricken death in 1864.

Two months after his death, Stephen Fosters Beautiful Dreamer was published in New York.

Beautiful Dreamer by Stephen Foster

Beautiful dreamer, wake unto me,
Starlight and dewdrops are waiting for thee;
Sounds of the rude world heard in the day,
Lull'd by the moonlight have all pass'd away!

Beautiful dreamer, queen of my Song,
List while I woo thee with soft melody;
Gone are the cares of life's busy throng, --
Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!

Beautiful dreamer, out on the sea
Mermaids are chaunting the wild lorelie;
Over the streamlet vapors are borne,
Waiting to fade at the bright coming morn.

Beautiful dreamer, beam on my heart,
E'en as the morn on the streamlet and sea;
Then will all clouds of sorrow depart, --
Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!

Beacon Verse Series Article One

I am but a Beacon,
Like a lighthouse in the storm;
So, when its a friend youre seekin,
Come on in, Ill keep you warm

Like a fleece,
I will enfold you
To protect you from the gale;
though release,
No, Ill not hold you,
When its time that you set sail
Beacon Verse Series Beacon 1977 (part one)

The above poem is the first page of Beacon Verse By Russ Miles which I published in 1977. Very well received within the loca l Portland, Oregon bookstores which I had set up for distribution I was ready to publish another 5,000 copies. I knew that the Limited Edition, hand numbered 1,000 copies would be sold out within a couple of months...

Then, I had what I call An attack of conscience. What if an unforgiving God were to hold me responsible for corrupting the minds and influencing the actions of innocents?

Frightening, purgatorial and worse images twisted my self-seeking, 29-year-old scruples. Id only seen pictures until that time of Dantes Inferno. Yet, having been raised a Catholic I knew that hell was hot and that the devil would administer no mercy.

I didnt pray back then. Certainly, I hadnt seen the inside of a confessional in years. I just hoped that I hadnt already done too much damage. Immediately, I removed all remaining copies of Be acon and my 2nd poetry book, Imperfections, from the market in early 1979. I felt my actions were consistent with the last Poems promise in my 48 page, Beacon poetry book as included below:

Beacon (part two)

When the waves break high around you,
And you fear you might capsize;
When the world is out to drown you,
And the storm clouds black your skies

When adrift
Upon lifes oceans
So, your waters all seem st range,
Eyes uplift,
Dispel such notions,
With Gods help, youll find your Range.
