Soap Martians and Eels (6/22/2004)

The children ran into the Water,
And Squealed,
As they Shrieked,
The Eel! The Eel!
And they shuddered,
As they looked to the Sky,
While a Campfire burned,
And talked about the Martian
That might come down.
And they laughed,
When they remembered,
Eating the Soap in the Tub.
And they were so young,
That, that, was the scope,
Of their young and innocent hearts.
Soap, Martians and Eels.
Like pieces of a scrap book.
The memories flashed
Inside the old womans mind.
And the sounds played,
In her head, like an old Record.
And she smiled.
One of her friends came,
And sat beside, her,
Looking at the silly grin.
Penny for your thoughts, she said.
Soap, Martians and Eels,
She responded,
And put out her left hand,
Palm up, now pay up!

A poem born of childhood fantasy takes wings, in the imagination and carried forward to the golden years, when the body is carried in the shell of what once was, on the outside and sometimes regressing to what was on the inside. Childhood fantasy, sometimes the salvation of our elder years. I work with seniors sometimes, and the child like humor and innocense never ceases to amaze me. Blessed be!
