Moving Across Country

Moving across the country

From Canada to the USA

Driving such a long distance

It certainly is quite far away

Nevertheless we did it anyhow

Loaded our Uhaul way down

Got the heck out of town

Left Markham, Ontario late at night

Arrived at the border alright

Entered the trucks lane

Apparently unecessarily

Anyhow just the same

Cause we were heavily questioned

By border patrol

But we told the truth

Didn't sell our soul

God was with us thankfully

As we got cleared

And entered happily

As we drove into Buffalo

There were shouts of joy

Hugs, kisses, high-fives

Along with sighs of relief

Cause for days prior

Karla didn't sleep

She'd been worrying incessantly

About Immigration matters

Interest paid in advance

On something she'll never own

That worry was

Cause the God of heaven and earth

Was undoubtedl y with us

Immigration lawyers warned

Against trying to cross the border

The way they talked

You'd think I was trying to steal

Someone's daughter.

Once in the land

Of the free and the brave

It was all highway

As we navigated

Across each and every state

Following map-quest directions

Rarely did we deviate

First through the Big Apple

Doing Denny's at 5am

Then Pennsylvania

Mountainous rural West Virginia

Like a veteran trucker I did drive

Not falling asleep at the wheel

Sleeping by day

Driving by night

No traffic in sight

Then we got to North Carolina

Pushed through to South Carolina

Georgia on my mind

Driving the speed limit

But making good time

That gas guzzling machine

Worked like a charm

Not a piece of furniture was lost

No scratches or breakage

Just wheels rolling

Through countless mil es and acreage

Then once in the sunshine state

We finally arrived

Utterly exhausted

But still alive

The next day we arose

Started to unpack in Orlando

Then the conflict began

An after the honeymoon panic attack

Taking it slow

We maneuvered through it well

Proceeded to unload the truck

Taking one day at a time

Letting go of the individualistic attitude

Of this is yours and this is mine

Days later we are still working

Getting fully organized

Giving things away

To the Salvation Army

Throwing lots more in the trash

Trying to sell things too

To earn some much needed cash

To pay off the expensive wedding

And glorious honeymoon

Trying to be a good steward

Not become a newlywed goon

The border has been crossed

The move has been made

But I sense more is coming

Though I know not the way

Marriage is moving

Marriage is monetary

Marriage is happiness

But not always divine bliss

The initial move is over

Turn out the lights

Go to bed

Give me a kiss

Karla you're the best organizer

Are we nearly through with this?
