The Rain The Possum And Interference

5/6/06
I looked out through the dirty window panes
as the rain fall increased and fell with fury...
I turned around and looked at the fire
in my little fire place and shuddered.
I knew I should have brought in more wood,
earlier in the day, while the gettin' had been good.
I heard the tea kettle whistle in the kitchen,
and pulled my sweater tighter around me,
to try and ward off some of the chill
while I moved across the room to make some tea.
Maybe a good cup of hot orange blossom and Jasmine tea
is all this old gal needs to warm up, just a bit.
I turned on the old radio, to drown out,
some of the chaos that nature had unleashed outside my door.
But, the rain was causing havock even with radio waves
and I all I got was some melodic interferance.
Damn thing! I know I need to get a better antena.
But it wasn't just the gettin' and the fetchin' all the way up here,
out in the middle of nowhere, at the top of a mountain,
and down in this ole gully,
but the putting up, and the fixin' and the repairin'
and, and, and...
It was always something.
And I had the funniest thought as I scuffled across the floor.
I wondered if my life would be any easier,
If I was just some old possum,
scratching, climbing and hunting for food.
Wonder what it would be like, I said out loud.
Then I looked out the windows again, and thought,
nahhh, wouldn't wanna be no possum out there tonight,
getting all soaking wet.
And I went in and made my tea,
and came out and threw another log on the fire,
and settled down for the night with a book,
and had one more to-do cross my mind,
before I started to read,
yep, before next winter, got to get me,
a propane tank up here... and a propane heater....
Now where did I leave off in this dang ole book.....
