You go to sleep one day
and wake up the next morning.
Seems right, just like yesterday.
Exciting, adventuresome, no Warning.
No Warning that the phone will ring
and change your life forever.
No Warning that your sister died
on a motorcycle endeavor.
You see my life has been about me.
The litlle boy who had it made
Suddenly it's plain to see.
And now I am afraid.
For the little boy who had it made
looked forward to the rising sun.
No death, sadness, or cause for grief,
each new day an opportunity for fun.
Swept away in one mega second
as I answered that dreadful phone.
I learned that day the misery
that can turn your heart to stone.
Looked in the eyes of my mothers gloom
did not really know what to say.
Heard her exclaim and understood.
It wasn't suppose to be this way!
No longer is it all about me.
For now I must fill th e void.
And share her love excessively
to the rest of this old world.
For she was quick to share herself
Although she bent the rules.
Quick to smile and make you laugh,
now I must fill her shoes.
No longer is life just about me,
even though it does not seem fair.
I learned it from my sister Alice
and now know, the love I, must share.
